The course
About this course
The same Intermediate First Aid course adults take, at a youth rate. You do the Red Cross online study at home, then spend one day in class practising what you read: airway and breathing emergencies, bleeding control, wound care, head and spine injuries, and full CPR Level C with AED. You train alongside the adults in the room and leave with the same Canadian Red Cross certificate, valid three years.
Which certification a Nova Scotia workplace needs depends on its size, its risk and how far it sits from emergency care. What Nova Scotia employers have to provide sets out the rules, and Intermediate or Basic compares the two levels.
Who is this course for?
Learners aged 12 to 17 pay 20% less than the adult rate on any scheduled date. The discount is applied on the booking page, so there is nothing to ask for and no code to type.
How the blended course runs
Two halves. The reading happens at home, at your own pace, and the class day is spent on your hands and knees practising.
Before class: the online half
We register the learner with the Red Cross ahead of the class, and the Red Cross emails them a login. The online study is done at home, at your own pace, and has to be finished before the class day. You cannot be certified without it.
In class: skills and scenarios
One full day, 9:00 to 5:00, practising bandaging, splinting, recovery positions and scene assessment on real equipment with an instructor watching.
CPR-C and AED
Compressions, rescue breaths and AED pad placement for adults, children and infants, practised on manikins until it is automatic.
Your certificate
The Canadian Red Cross issues it after the class day. It is the same Intermediate First Aid certificate an adult in the room receives, valid for three years.
Each learner needs their own email address
The Red Cross sends the online course to the learner directly, so every seat needs a different address. If you are booking two young people, use two addresses rather than one of yours twice.
