Is this the right course for my child?
Brave Start is for kids who are starting to do more on their own.
It is a good fit if your child is:
starting to stay home for short periods
walking to school, a friend’s house, or activities
using a phone, tablet, gaming app, or messaging app
learning how to speak up or ask for help
not quite ready for a babysitting course
interested in beginner first aid
This course is a helpful step before BraveHeart Babysitter.
What students practise
Brave Start gives students clear steps for common safety and first aid situations.
Students practise how to:
notice when something feels unsafe, confusing, or wrong
name safe adults they can go to for help
understand boundaries, privacy, and self-advocacy
recognize red flags like pressure, secrecy, guilt, and unsafe requests
make safer choices at home, online, and in public
know what to do if they get lost or separated
call 911 and share important information
use Check-Call-Care and basic ABC first aid steps
respond to small injuries, nosebleeds, burns, bleeding, choking, allergic reactions, stings, and ticks
A practical class for growing independence
Kids this age are learning how to handle more situations without an adult right beside them.
Brave Start gives them a structured place to practise what to say, who to ask, and what to do first. The class is active, age-appropriate, and calm. Students use a workbook, guided discussion, and first aid practice to build skills they can keep using at home.
